Happy New Year!

Happy New Year!

As I wish 2013 Good Bye and prepare to to greet 2014 with a big Hello, I want to do more with my stamping.  I am going to focus on a different stamp set each week.  This will motivate me to use the stamp sets I have.  One week a month I will pull out retired product for my focus.  I just love some of my older stamp sets.  The remaining weeks I will focus on current products that are available for purchase.  A new thing for me will be filming tutorials.  I have been meaning to do videos for a while now, but I am so intimidated by them.  I see so many wonderful videos out there.  Be sure to check back on Friday, when I will hopefully have my first post in this series up.

It's a Dragon Christmas

So my cousin messages me on Facebook and asks me to make her some Christmas cards.  No problem right.  Well, she wants dragons or fairies and she wants them in black and purple.  Well, Stampin' Up! has lots of stamps, current and retired, but I only found one with a dragon on it.  It would make a great birthday card, but not much for Christmas.  I searched my collection of stamps and found no Stampin' Up! fairy stamps.  Pinterest is my friend this time.  I was looking through all the lovely posts for punch art and I found the perfect thing.  A full bodied dragon.  After making one, I knew I would never put together 15 of them.  So from the same designer I found a dragon poking through a cut out in the card.  Perfect!  If you want to find the instructions to make the dragons, please visit http://alexscreativecorner.blogspot.com/2013/05/baby-dragon-punch-art.html for the full body dragon or http://alexscreativecorner.blogspot.ca/2013/05/dragon-punch-art-card.html for the dragon I used on these cards.  I did have to substitute a few punches for my cards.

New Specials this week

Santa's List Gift Card Holder

Christmas time is quickly approaching.  Knowing how hard it is to shop for some of the loved ones on your list, I know you probably give out gift cards.  I know I give them out.  The nephews are so hard to buy for.  I never know what to get them.  This is a great way to dress up the gift cards you give.  I just love the Santa's List stamp.

  1. I started with a piece of 4 1/2 x 11 inch Read Red Cardstock.
  2. I punched one inch in from the side with the Envelope Punch Board, turned the paper and punched again.
  3. I stamped the image with Black StazOn and trimmed it down.
  4. I then matted with Wild Wasabi Cardstock.
  5. I scored the bottom of the cardstock at 1 3/4 inch and used wet glue to seal the sides.
  6. I folded the cardstock over to meet the bottom and creased it with my bone folder.
  7. I attached a 1/2 inch strip of Season of Style DSP to the bottom.
  8. I attached the image to the top.
  9. I measured the inside of my card and cut a piece of Whisper White Cardstock to stamp my sentiment on.
  10. I stamped and attached the sentiment to the inside of the card.
The oval stamp is from a retired stamp set.

October Facebook Swap Cards

It is so hard to do swaps for the fall this year.  Stampin' Up! retired pretty much every stamp set I could use for this time of year.  I haven't had the money to invest in very many of the new stamps in the new Holiday Catalog this year.  There are some really great ones I am still hoping to add to my collection.

I used a retired stamp set for this card along with a stamp from the hostess set Banner Greetings.  The theme for this swap was Colors of the Season/Friendship.

I used a retired stamp set for this card also.  The theme for this card was of course Halloween.  One of my favorite holidays.

Everyday Occasions Cardmaking Kit

EVERYDAY OCCASIONS CARDMAKING KIT

The Everyday Occasions Cardmaking Kit is a fantastic tool to introduce stamping, cardmaking, and Stampin' Up! in general to brand-new customers! First introduced on stage at Convention 2013, Everyday Occasions was developed with the new customer in mind. It is intended to introduce--by way of a simple, fun experience at a great price--the arts of stamping and cardmaking to people who have not yet experienced the joy of Stampin' Up! products.
Why go to the store when a birthday, graduation, wedding or even a time for expressing gratitude comes up? The Everyday Occasions Cardmaking Kit puts cards for all of those events right at your customers' fingertips, and best of all, they'll be handmade! The kit contains everything necessary (minus adhesive and scissors) to create 20 beautiful cards for almost any occasion, and it comes in a beautiful box to store them in. The kit is the perfect way to introduce people to Stampin' Up!--and it also makes the perfect gift for that creative someone you or your customers know!
Demonstrator Business Information
While we hope that experienced stampers enjoy the value, simplicity, and even the gift-giving potential of the Everyday Occasions Cardmaking Kit, ultimately, the kit was designed as a tool for demonstrators to introduce new customers to the joys of cardmaking by providing a simple, fun experience at a great value. Our sincere hope is that, using this kit, you will experience great success in growing your customer base. And to help you do so, our Demonstrator Training department is offering a free webinar on Monday, September 30 from 3:00-5:00 PM (MT) to share some great ideas for how to use the kit in your business.
Watch the webinar for additional information
If you can't attend the webinar, no problem. We'll record it and make it available on this page. Look for the page to be updated with the recorded webinar a few days after the live broadcast.

Some things to be aware of
  • Because Everyday Occasions is designed to introduce stamping to brand-new customers, we will make it available for purchase through a variety of retail venues with the ultimate goal of connecting new customers with demonstrators in their areas. Negotiations with these retail venues are not yet complete, but we will be sure to keep you informed as they are decided.
  • Everyday Occasions is only available while supplies last. However, this does not mean that once they are gone, they are gone forever. We just do not want your new customers' first experience to be a backorder. If we run out of kits, we will turn them off. If the kits turn out to be as popular as we hope, we will turn them back on as soon as we are able to get more inventory.
  • We've created a downloadable flyer for you to distribute via e-mail or print. Click on the image to the right to download the flyer.
  • The Everyday Occasions Cardmaking Kit is available through all order types and is a cash and carry item--meaning you can purchase them in advance and take them with you to sell at events, parties, craft or vendor shows, or as you meet potential new customers.
    • Have a new customer at a party or other event who can't quite decide where to start? You've got a kit for that!
    • Meet a potential new customer who wants a quick sample of what Stampin' Up! has to offer? You've got a kit for that! (Keep a few in your car!)
  • Keep in mind that the Everyday Occasions Cardmaking Kit makes an excellent gift. One way the kit may appeal to existing customers or experienced crafters is as a gift to give away!
  • Because the only things not included are items almost everyone has--scissors and adhesive--consider upselling SNAIL and Paper Snips along with the Everyday Occasions kit.
  • These cute cards are easily suited to posting on social media. Assemble your favorite cards and post pictures on social media. Write something like, "Look what I just made with my Everyday Occasions Cardmaking Kit. They only take minutes to make!"

Fall is in the air.

Lovely As A Tree has been in the Stampin' Up! catalog for many years.  It has probably been the longest running stamp set they offer.  The images cover all seasons.  I love this set and it was one of my first purchases, but this is the first time I have used it.  I belong to a Facebook group called Stampin Up Addicts.  We buy, sell, and swap on the group.  I love the swaps.  I participated in the Halloween swap we did in August and it was so much fun.  For the September swap, we did a Fall/Thanksgiving card.  This time we had enough interest to do two groups.  I signed up and sent my cards for the first group as soon as I could.  The second group had a lot of interest, but some of the ladies dropped out or didn't send in their cards.  When the call went out for more entries, I answered and created this card.  I am sadly lacking in Thanksgiving/Fall sentiments and had to use a non Stampin Up! sentiment for this card.  It is from Hampton Arts.  This is one of my few watercolor attempts.  This one turned out better than most.  The colors I used are Old Olive, Pear Pizzazz, So Saffron, Real Red, and Chocolate Chip.  The image was stamped on watercolor paper with Stazon Black.  My card base is Bravo Burgundy.

For The Digital Stamp User

Do you love Digi Stamps? Have you ever thought of Stampin' Up! for digi stamps? Stampin' Up! has a great digital scrapbooking program called My Digital Studio. They offer a lot of different options for your digital scrapbooking needs. One of the options offered is Stamp Brush Sets. Stamp brush sets can be used as digi stamps. They are offered as downloads for MDS and for other applications. This means you don't have to purchase MDS to use them. You can use them in your other programs just like digi stamps you purchase from other online shops. The best thing about these downloads is you can get them for retired stamp sets. There are many stamps sets I would love to have, but buying them secondhand because they are retired and in high demand makes them too expensive. I can get most if not all of them in digital format. I can also get many new sets a a more budget friendly price. New downloads are offered every Tuesday. They can be ordered through my online store and downloaded immediately. No waiting for them to be delivered by UPS. Just remember this is digital merchandise and no physical stamps will be mailed.

Affordable classes for local customers

Hi Stampers, Cardmakers, and Scrapbookers! With all the layoffs in our area and job uncertainty, would you like to get away from it all for an hour or two and relax? Stamping, making cards and making simple scrapbook layouts are very relaxing to me. Would you like to join in? I would like to invite you to come and make some things with me. I will be keeping the cost down as much as possible so that it can be affordable. I would like to offer some $5.00 classes. You could come and make a simple scrapbook layout or a couple of cards. No additional purchase would be necessary. This would be a great chance to get away with friends for an hour or two, chat, and catch up. If you would like to arrange a class, please let me know. If you would like to hostess an event and have 5 or more confirmed and paid guests, I will provide your class materials for free. As a hostess, you can choose the project(s) we would be working on. I will be providing a handmade gift to every hostess no matter how many confirmed and paid guests you have.

Perfectly Penned Birthday

I love the Apothecary Accents framelits, but I wish they had two sets for each one.  I love to layer with my framelits.  I cut out the Happy Birthday sentiment with my framelit, but wanted to layer it on the same shape.  Then it hit me, trace around the outer edge of the framelit and fussy cut it out.  Doing this will give me so many more ways to use them.

September Swaps on Facebook

For September, I am actually in 3 different swaps on Facebook.  These are the cards for 2 of my swap groups.

In Stampin Up Friends we have a monthly theme and a sweepstakes winner chosen from the participants.  For the sweepstakes card, I used Blushing Bride and the Wildflower Meadow Bundle.  The ribbon is Pretty in Pink.  We can use retired if we need to.  The themed card is Thinking of You/Praying for You.  I went with Strawberry Slush for this card.  Just because it is a Thinking of You/Praying for You doesn't mean it has to be somber colors for me.  Sometimes a pop of color can cheer up someone who is feeling a bit down.  I used color blocking (inking up a clear block and stamping to create a background) and an image from Flowering Flourishes.
This card is for the swap group Stampin Up Addicts.  This is the first month for this swap group.  The theme is Back to School.  Retired items are allowed for this swap.  I recently purchased It's Academic.  I love this stamp set even though it is retired.  I love the way the Daffodil Delight looks when stamped on Daffodil Delight Cardstock.  It is dark enough to make a great background.

A lot of demonstrators do not keep retired stamp sets and would not purchase a set if it was retired.  I love some of the retired sets.  I make cards and sell them to people who aren't interested in making their own cards.  I do purchase retired stamp sets I like if I can get them for the right price.  I made a scrapbook for a retiring teacher and I really wish I had this set then.  You just never know what you might need for a project.

Smile

This card was made with the Flower Shop Bundle.  I stamped the flowers on the Whisper White layer and then punched them out with my pansy punch.  I used Stampin' Dimensionals to pop the flowers up over the blank spaces from where I punched.  It shows a shadow from the Tempting Turquoise card base underneath.  I used the Smile sentiment inked in Tempting Turquoise from the Happy Day stamp set.  The Large Pearl Basic Jewels make the perfect flower centers.

Missing You Ghost Ship

I was playing around with some ghosting techniques I saw on YouTube this past weekend.  I think they would do a lot better with glossy cardstock, but couldn't find mine and Stampin' Up! doesn't sell it anymore, so I used Whisper White cardstock.  For the background, I used White Craft Ink with Pear Pizzazz ink brayered over it.  I let the craft ink dry for a long time and even heat set it, but it still reacted with the Pear Pizzazz I used over it.  I wasn't really happy with it.  I used my aqua painter to splash some water over it.  I liked the spots it left behind.  For the image, I used a retired stamp set that I love (Schooner).  With this one I used Versimark and brayered over it with Island Indigo.  The image showed up really faint.  Made me think of missing someone, which is why this is a Missing You card.   I thought this button stamp from the retired set Button Button went great.  I layered the card front on a card base of Marina Mist.  I think for my next ghosting technique I will try is using clear embossing powder and sponging around on the cardstock.

Don't forget to check out Late Night Stampers Fall 2013 Treasure Hunt.  I am offering prizes to a lucky follower, commenter, and customer.

Christmas Memo Pad

While at Staples this weekend, I found these cut little mini legal pads.  I remembered seeing a video of someone covering them to make cute teacher gifts.  I decided to give it a try.
I gathered up my supplies.  I used Baked Brown Sugar, Cherry Cobbler, and Gumball Green Ink.  The papers are Gumball Green, Whisper White, and Seasons of Style DSP Stack.  I used the Holiday Ornament Framelits and Ornament Keepsakes Stamp Set with my Big Shot.  Some Whisper White Bakers Twine, Snail Adhesive, Mini Glue Dots and Stampin' Dimensionals rounded it out.
I cut my papers to size, 3 1/2 inches wide.  The Gumball Green I left at 11 inches.  The Seasons of Style, I trimmed to 2 inches long.  (I ended up cutting some of the Gumball Green from the bottom of the back.)
I lined up the Gumball Green and adhered it to the font page of the mini legal pad and wrapped it all the way around the back.
I stamped the smaller ornaments and cut them out with the big shot and framelits.

I tied small bows with the bakers twine and used mini glue dots to attach them.  I cut some bakers twine to attach to the backs of the ornaments and attached them with glue dots.  Then I added Stampin' Dimensionals to the backs.
I ran a line of Snail adhesive across the top of the pad to attach the strings to hold them in place.
I adhered the Seasons of Style DSPS piece to the top and wrapped it around to the back.
I thought it needed something else so I pulled out my Christmas Messages Stamp Set and used the Oh What Fun sentiment.
I love the way it turned out.
